#MeToo – WhatNext? Sexual Harassment in the Workplace and in Education

Please join SABADC and attorneys from the National Women's Law Center for a discussion of current policy proposals and legal advocacy relating to the #metoo movement, including ideas for preventing and addressing sexual harassment in the workplace and in schools. We hope to have a discussion about how we can collectively move forward the work to decrease the prevalence of sexual and other harassment across our relevant communities. Our speakers from the National Women's Law Center include: Sunu P. Chandy, Legal Director; Neena Chaudhry, Director of Education and Senior Counsel; and Maya Raghu, Director of Workplace Equality and Senior Counsel.

This event is hosted by the Women's Committee (formerly known as the Women's Mentoring Circle) and all are welcome!

Speakers:

Sunu P. Chandy is currently the Legal Director of the National Women’s Law Center. She oversees the Center’s litigation efforts, providing strategy and guidance to staff across NWLC to create better legal outcomes for women and girls at school, the workplace, and the health care sector. Immediately prior to joining the Center, Sunu served as the Deputy Director for the Civil Rights Division with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Sunu has also served as the General Counsel of the DC Office of Human Rights (OHR) and in that role oversaw agency decisions following investigations of discrimination in employment, education, housing and public accommodation matters.  Before that, from 1999-2014, Sunu served as a federal attorney with the U.S. Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), where she litigated class civil rights employment matters including based on sex, race, national origin, disability, age and religion based discrimination. Sunu was also a member of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAPPI) Regional Working Group and helped to organize conferences and civil rights panels alongside federal partners in New York City. Sunu earned her B.A. in Peace and Global Studies/Women’s Studies from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, her law degree from Northeastern University School of Law in Boston and her MFA in Creative Writing (Poetry) from Queens College/The City University of New York.

Neena Chaudhry is Director of Education and Senior Counsel. Her work centers on litigation and advocacy to enforce and protect Title IX, primarily in the areas of athletics and sexual harassment. Prior to joining NWLC in 1997 as a Georgetown Women’s Law and Public Policy Fellow, Neena clerked for the Honorable Michael Daly Hawkins of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She is a graduate of Yale Law School and the University of Maryland at College Park.

Maya Raghu is Director of Workplace Equality and Senior Counsel at the National Women’s Law Center. She works on a range of issues addressing women’s economic security and employment opportunity, including pay equity, pregnancy discrimination and sexual harassment. Prior to joining the Law Center, she was a senior attorney at Futures Without Violence and a senior staff attorney at Legal Momentum, focusing on economic security, gender discrimination, gender-based violence and human trafficking, with an emphasis on immigrant and low-income women. Her work encompassed litigation, legislative and policy advocacy, public education, multi-sector initiatives and cross-movement collaboration. She was also previously an associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and a law clerk to the Hon. Vanessa D.
