Endorsements

SABA-DC believes in supporting and advancing the careers of members of the Washington, D.C. legal community.  As a result, we play an active role in reviewing requests for endorsements from candidates for important legal positions, such as judicial nominations, political appointments, or election to Bar or other voluntary leadership positions.

Process

  • Candidates for an endorsement should submit the Required Materials (see below) at least four weeks in advance of the deadline for submission of SABA-DC’s endorsement letter or announcement. 
  • SABA-DC may consider endorsement requests after the deadline on a case-by-case basis.
  • For DC Bar Candidates in the 2023 election only, the deadline for submitting a request for endorsement is Friday, May 5, 2023.  Any requests received after this deadline will not be considered.  SABA-DC will announce its endorsements on or about May 15, 2023. 
  • The SABA-DC Endorsements Committee will review all applications and conduct an interview.
  • The Endorsements Committee will make endorsement recommendations to the SABA-DC Board.
  • The SABA-DC Board will then consider and vote on whether to provide an endorsement.

Criteria

  • SABA-DC membership status and sustained history of involvement in SABA-DC’s activities and initiatives;
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting the South Asian legal community in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and/or nationally;
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting efforts to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession; and
  • Strong academic and professional qualifications commensurate with the position being sought.

Required Materials

  • Candidates should send requests to sabadcendorsements@gmail.com 
  • Please write “[ENDORSEMENT REQUEST]” in the subject line of the email
  • State in the body of the email the deadline and addresses for the recipients
  • Attach Endorsement Questionnaire
  • Attach Current Resume or CV

Publicity and Confidentiality

  • The application materials of all candidates seeking endorsement for any elected or appointed office shall be kept confidential by the Endorsements Committee and the SABA-DC Board.
  • If an endorsed candidate requests SABA-DC to publicize our support, SABA-DC will announce the endorsement on its Endorsements webpage (http://www.sabadc.org/Endorsements).
  • SABA-DC also may elect to promote any selection or confirmation through our Raising the Bar newsletter and social media posts (where appropriate).
